Perennial olive tree from Roman time. It is located in the archaeological site of Gortyn in the prefecture of Heraklion. Its age is determined according to scientific measurements around 1600 years.As it grew, the tree trunk enwrapped and encased the pillar, which has ever since been an inseparable part of the trunk itself.
